Backcountry 1.0 is Alpenglow Expeditions’ introductory backcountry ski and snowboard touring course, designed for those with little to no touring experience. This full-day educational program in North Lake Tahoe teaches the essential skills you need to start traveling safely and confidently in backcountry terrain.
Taught by professional AMGA-trained guides, this course covers equipment use, efficient uphill travel, safe downhill technique in variable snow, terrain awareness, and foundational decision-making skills. You’ll get hands-on practice in real Sierra backcountry conditions, making it the perfect first step before taking an AIARE 1 course.
