Carving Workshop: The Physics of Flow

In this workshop, we explore the physics behind carving through careful consideration of its components, helping you start your season with focused clarity and tangible tools to lay down the perfect line.

    • inclination and angulation in a variety of snow conditions.BALANCE
    • your edge angle to create different turn shapes and sizes.ADAPT
    • your snowboard’s profile to influence turn shape.MANIPULATE
    • your turns to fit changing terrain and traffic patterns.HARMONIZE

If you’re looking to explore more of your favorite resorts with confidence, this workshop is a must. It’s also perfect preparation for our Freeride Sessions in Japan or anyone training toward their Level 2 Ride Exam.

This workshop is designed for intermediate to advanced snowboarders and requires a minimum of 4 participants to operate. If the minimum is not met within 14 days of the start date, you’ll receive a full refund.

AASI Certified Instructors receive an additional discount—please inquire for details.

Monday, Fundamentals of Carving (The Inclination-Angulation Equation)

Meet at WILD FLOWER BAKERY in The Village at Palisades Tahoe at 8:30 AM.
Our first day on snow is a deep dive into the physics behind carving. We’ll explore the balance between inclination, angulation, board design, speed, and terrain to understand how carving works—and why it’s so fun. Expect a regimented approach that highlights specific turn phases for focused learning.

After lifts close, we’ll review personal video footage for detailed performance analysis. Be prepared to be on the mountain until around 5:30 PM.

Tuesday, External Forces and Flow (Harmonizing with the Mountain)

Meet at 8:30 AM at Alpine Meadows.
We’ll begin by reviewing insights from Day 1’s video session, then expand our focus to overall line choice. Learn how to “read a run,” mapping changes in contour and snow texture to shape carves that flow naturally with the mountain. After the lifts close, we’ll head back to the lodge for a final debrief and celebration!
